Beauty and function is the result of Victorian home renovation

Some projects are so memorable; we like to share details of our part in them with our clients.

One such project was the recent ZN House, in Toronto.

A smaller, Victorian-style home on a beautiful, tree-lined street was re-imagined by Toronto architect +tongtong.

A past nominee for an Interior Design Media Best of Year award in the small residential houses category, the home went from cramped and dated to classic contemporary, with contemporary and traditional styles blended.

The addition and renovation gave the home a bright, open, spacious feel.

At Tradewood Industries, we know classic contemporary home design can be like an engineering jigsaw puzzle, with crisp, linear lines that become evident only when all the pieces of the project are connected.

Tradewood’s design team was delighted to be part of the ZN House project; our experts were able to provide the architect’s team with virtually unlimited design possibilities for windows and doors.

On this project, Tradewood’s unique modular system allowed a variety of window and door product groups to blend flawlessly together with the architect’s design, utilizing both traditional and classic styles. From a curtain wall to single window or door units in tight spaces, our team met the challenges it faced.

The architect’s design kept the home and its addition true to the existing styles of the neighbourhood, while providing a family with open, bright, expanded living space.

The client and architect’s team placed an emphasis on natural materials and light, using some industrial-style materials to accentuate the new, classic contemporary design. The kitchen is perhaps our favourite room, where a series of skylights brings light down three floors, animating a wall and ceiling made of zinc.

This project allowed Tradewood’s experts to be part of something completely unique; a fusion of styles resulting in a family home that is beautiful and functional at the same time.

It is both exciting and humbling to part of such a dramatic transformation.
